PERFORMANCE / OPTIMISATION ENGINEER - PROPRIETARY TRADING FIRM

We are working with a Market Leading Global Trading Organisation that is renowned for utilising bleeding edge technology, creating innovative solutions and attracting / rewarding the best technologists the markets have to offer. They have been consistently growing their Sydney operations organically, have exceptional staff retention rates over the last few years and are looking for an additional Performance Engineer to join their highly talented technology team.

You will join a niche performance team that strives to reduce latency across their trading systems connectivity components by analyzing, optimizing and continuously tuning the firms trading environment/infrastructure. You will be asked to provide performance ideas, solutions and recommendations that are both smart and scalable to the business.

The firm's profitability is directly correlated to the speed of its systems, so the Performance team is crucial to the company's wider success. The team is imbedded in the business and interacts closely with the traders and software development teams to isolate noticeable areas for improvement as well as conducting ongoing performance monitoring.

The performance team employs passionate technology professionals that are able to take a holistic view of systems (Operating Systems (OS) : Infrastructure : Networks : Software : External Connections), evaluate all components and then focus on the bottle necks for optimisation. From there, they are responsible for identifying and implementing creative solutions or escalation them to the appropriate technology team.

It is essential that you possess a strong overall understanding of all elements of technology, an in-depth knowledge of speed-enhancing solutions and have a creative and unwavering approach to problem solving thus enabling a competitive edge in a constantly evolving technical market.

This role will best suit a technologist who is most happy producing highly performant solutions and can't sleep until they have squeezed every last micro-second of the systems for which they are responsible.

Technical skills:
* Relevant working experience, either in a similar performance role or other technically demanding, low level technology engineering role.
* Expert level knowledge of Linux with focus on operating system internals (Kernels)
* High level of competency with C++ and/or Java programming
* Strong understanding of Networked systems (TCP/IP, UDP, IP Multicast)
* Experience of Linux, Bash, Perl, Python, MySQL.
* Strong analytical skills, well-developed planning ⁄ organising skills and a highly structured approach to tackling tasks and achieving results.
* Bachelor ⁄ Masters Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or alternative technical area with strong academic results.
